At The Tipi Company, we use an innovative coated canvas fabric with inherently flame-retardant properties. The fibres in this tent cloth provide extra safety and protection. It works by making the fabric resistant to scorching, glowing and sparks, which slows down the spread of fire. With its unique flame-retardant properties, the coated beige canvas we use for our tipi tents meets various international standards for fire resistance. This makes it ideal if you want to place a log burner inside your tipi.

With this canvas that has an extra coating on the outside, you can be sure that rainwater will run directly off the canvas and away from the structure, with no leaks.
In contrast to the coated sand-coloured main tipi canvas that we offer, we reinforce the edges of our canvas tipi tents with 50cm of military-grade, tear-resistant Cordura fabric. Cordura is a fabric that was developed specifically for military use, but its uses have evolved over the years to now include providing a stunning two-tone feature to our tipis. It is this fabric that allows the strong tensioning of our tipis in various linked formations to create a water-resistant outdoor event space like no other.
Built to last and designed to perform in the field, every detail of our canvas has been thoroughly thought out. Areas of increased tension are reinforced to ensure they won’t break during assembly when linking or lifting the tipis. Unlike our competitors, we sew extra D-rings onto the edge of our mudwall. This allows for an increased number of tension points made available for securing the tipis when in adverse weather conditions.

If this colour isn’t suitable for your offering – for example, where planning permission is more restrictive, or you want the tipis to blend into the surrounding environment more – our alternative colourways of Forest and Mocha are available for you to choose from.
*Forest and Mocha colourways are available for a small surcharge of around 10%.
