As bespoke tent makers, we are committed to playing our part to mitigate the climate change impacts associated with the running of our business.
Therefore, we are pleased to announce that in May 2023, we started our Journey to Net Zero with the support and experience of The Growth Company, which is an award-winning provider of environmental services designed to accelerate the net zero ambition. We’re focused on driving business innovation for our sector and delivering sustainable products and services to our customers. With the help of The Growth Company and collaborations such as these, we are forging a clear pathway for action to reduce our carbon emissions across the organisation.
Although we would love for this to be an instant transformation, we understand that this is a long journey that we are embarking on as a business. We are willing to share the challenges we face along the way and hope that our dedication to achieving sustainability will show our clients how much we care for the planet we live on.

At The Tipi Company, we strive each day to make our processes more sustainable so both our and your business can help to stay eco-friendly together. To date, we have made the following steps to produce sustainable tents within our tipi designs:
Manufacturing our tipis here in the UK significantly decreases the mileage a product has to travel and in turn, the fuel required. Keeping all our work on British soil dramatically lowers our business’s carbon footprint, and therefore the damage caused to the environment as a result.
We use advanced materials and engineering with our tipis Made in Britain that provide sustainability through a long lifecycle and extreme durability. We produce premium products with premium performance, offering sustainable tents with beauty. These are built to last, with high-performance ratings leading to fewer replacements and repairs required in the future.

Within textile production worldwide, it is estimated that 10-25% of fabric is wasted during the cutting process. Over the last decade of evolving our tipi designs, we at The Tipi Company, have developed and refined our cutting techniques with meticulous planning and excellent craftsmanship to significantly reduce our fabric waste.
For any that is left over, we have taken inspiration from the Indian textile industry tradition of utilising “Chindi” or waste fabric in another way. The Chindi Dhurrie is an important example of the practice of repurposing and recycling waste fabric, and as such, after the main canvas cutting process has been completed, any “Chindi” remaining is then used in the production of the bags, which all our products are supplied in.

Wood chippings are a bi-product of our pole manufacturing process. When we are tapering our main poles into the perfectly smooth, uniform poles that become the backbone of our tipi framework, wood chips are left remaining. These wood chips are an environmentally friendly bedding for livestock and as such, they are donated to rural farms in the local area.

We aim to be paperless by the end of 2024, investing in technology – both for our team in the office, and our teams in production. This will not only transform the way we work together as a team, but it will also ensure we conduct our business responsibly and sustainably.

We are incredibly excited to announce that this summer, a Biomass Boiler will be installed at our headquarters to efficiently heat our premises. By eliminating our electric heating system, we will significantly reduce our carbon dioxide output by up to 9.5 tons annually. Powered by any waste wood left over from pole production, the Biomass Boiler will greatly assist us on our journey to Net Zero.
